![]() So, the shoes and the clothing he makes should be as artistic as his music. He was setting up that his music and his shoes come from the same skill set, the same voice, and there is only one art for him that transcends all of his medium. I asked myself: “Why the hell is he talking about Payless right now?” From what I understood, Kanye was trying to draw an analogy between his music and his clothing, specifically his shoes. This seemingly random fact occurred during the rant about how Kanye wanted to change the world, and at first, it seemed really out-of-place. It’s clearly not where “cool” kids shop in fact, I remember being made fun of for wearing shoes that came from Payless and not the incredibly expensive Reebok “Pumps.” Yes, some of the other headline grabbing quotes might catch someone’s attention, but what I found interesting was that Kanye was trying to say that he called the CEO of Payless, a shoe store that is typically known for cheaper shoes. What I found was that what may seem like an absurd mad lib from a man who had lost his mind actually was quite beautiful and profound, and I wanted to try to share my interpretation of something he said about bullying. Ellen sat there quietly, allowing him to continue to rant, knowing very well that the video was about to be as viral as chicken pox in a third grade classroom. Kanye went on a rant, where he started reciting Rakim and talking about everything from fashion to Mark Zuckerberg to ending bullying. If you have not seen Kanye on Ellen, then I suggest you watch the 8:00 minutes of entertainment below, but if you don’t have time for that, then let me sum it up for you. It’s Kanye West.I have been down on Kanye West since his narcissistic antics turned him into the mad genius who seemed to put himself on the same platform as God, but after watching Kanye on Ellen, I changed my opinion about him a bit. It’s adorable and gross and sweet and despicable. That stripped down vulnerability is a cool change of pace coming from music’s Patron Saint of Braggadocio, Bombast, and Douchebaggery. West is actually sort-of singing on the track, the result of which sounds like when me and my brother were drunk in the basement over Christmas and a Pearl Jam song came on and we softly sang along to it with earnest passion and cringeworthy pitch. Donda West, who passed away in 2007 (which, aww). “Only One” is a collaboration with Paul McCartney (which, whoa), and was apparently written from the perspective of West’s mother, Dr. Of course, it’s easier to forgive West for emotionally manipulating us with his baby given the sentimentality of the song. So while we must implore you to think about that while cooing over how freaking cute he and North West are in this music video, we can also let certain things be. ![]() His response: “I felt this was a place I could express myself with love and no agenda.” That’s a real thing that he really said! Jenner asked West why he chose her show to debut the photo. Poorly played as a sweet family moment, West appeared on Kris toting the first public photo of North West, and the banter between him and Jenner about it was the most graphic display of mutual masturbation that television has ever seen, the crowing achievement of a people boasting an unabashed willingness to prostitute their family for fame. Do any of you remember where we obtained our first glimpse of this precocious little lovebug, North West? It was on Kris Jenner’s short-lived talk show, Kris, and the whole charade was disgusting. ![]() Isn’t that, I don’t know… gross?Īnd, folks, there’s actually a history of this, of West and Kardashian using their poor baby as a pawn to ingratiate themselves to a weary public tired of their famewhore antics. But, also, Kanye is using his daughter as a tool in his career. Using footage of Kanye palling around with North West in the clip is an excellent tool to humanize the rapper. West and Jonze’s music video is, yes, very cute.
